Very true about reading real books. If you're on the phone or laptop, even doing simple stuff like organizing photos, they think you're working. (How can they tell the difference?). My kids are in their late 20s now and both are voracious book readers.

Great advice. Something that helped us a lot with the stroller struggles is biking. Both boys were able to bike before turning 4, and now we just have their baby sis happy in the stroller as the boys bike loops around us in the neighborhood while we walk or run. Plus biking is super fun, they don’t even know it’s exercise : )

The value on Cerno content like this is he clearly verbalizes how you should be thinking about important life topics. The meta.

I hope men will read this and internalize it deeply. Cerno has helped me more than anyone to be a good father. He is the example for me. My gratitude.

Mike, I agree wholeheartedly with showing your children what to do. I've read books to them since they could sit in my lap on their own. Sometimes the same book over and over again. What I found hard is coming to grips with having simply 15 minutes of "me" time at the end of the day. I've since come to grips with it, most of the time, and realized this phase will pass. There is no need to rush it. in 15-20 years, the house will be empty and all I will have is "me" time while they live their lives.

If I could turn back the clock (my daughter is 17), I would have tried a lot harder to get her into good physical activity habits.

I hate common sense prose but I blocked my narcissism and read it. And for this gem "Were you the successful dad who said, “I do it all for my kids, that’s why I work hard!” When really it was your own ego that drove you to neglect family for credentials and material gain?" It never gets okd.

This motivated me to go on a walk with my kids yesterday (and to become a paid sub). It felt great, though later I learned while I was on my walk, just miles away from my home 3 people were killed in a building collapse. It was just an eerie observation of reality that people can be having some of the best and worst days of their lives right next to each other.

One major thing I do is got a bike trailer. I can take both kids for 2 hrs, give mom a break, and get in a nice zone 2 ride and the kids love it. I have a Burley trailer, they are great.

“You’re stuck with yourself.” Never heard this phrasing before. Kind of a liberating thought.

Seems pessimistic on the face of it. But if I accept this it means I no longer need to undo/remove/replace/overcome myself.

Thanks for this.
