Great article, Mike. And we can attest that you have indeed been talking about this for a while.

There’s no reason to visit these places.

If you visit, there’s no reason to interact with any problem people.

If you interact with problem ppl, there’s no reason not to RUN AWAY when they begin to problem

Idk if it was the MTA police or what, but there used to be on the Metro North lines, plain clothes guys who would be there just-in-case to help with degenerates harassing passengers. I remember clearly a late light train where some unstable man was loud and fronting-posing-threatening violence on passengers in the car. As he made his way toward the exit, and stood at the exit doors, still continuing the same harassment shit, the doors opened and a plain clothes cop guy launched out of his seat and propelled that man out of the car into the platform and took him down to the ground to proceed with arresting him. It was absolutely a beautiful sight to behold. Like a puma waiting in the bushes for just the right moment to pounce. Glorious. That’s what I’d like to see from law enforcement. That’s what cities who value their law abiding peace-loving tax-paying citizens will provide. Safety. Safe Trains to work and school and shopping. Safe trains back home again. Daily. As the ushe.

When I was younger, I definitely was the guy bragging about escaping jury duty because of job/money. Now that I’m in my 40s and seeing politics driving legal outcomes, I couldn’t imagine running away from it. Weirdly, was just summoned for later in June. Hoping to do my part

NY is a lost cause now. But other cities/ red cities can learn from how NY used to do it when they were successfully keeping the trains safe.
