Great to hear that you started BJJ at an "advanced" age. I started 3 years ago, at the age of 53. Starting over 40 is tough, but it can be done. Now, I'm a blue belt. Believe me, I'm not smashing any 25 year olds, but I'm holding my own, and not afraid of anyone.
I'm so glad you made the move over here, Mike. Becoming a writer on Substack was the best decision I made in 2022 (and I made some good ones!). Your mindset skills have helped me to be where I am today, which is a very good place. I hope you stay awhile. I thank you sincerely for being just exactly the beautifully complicated human that you are!
Last year, I discovered "preply," and started using it for language learning. Maybe, I've been living under a rock, but, I think it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. For $40/hr, I spend an hour one-on-one with a French tutor, living in France. No driving needed, no waste of time being in a classroom...I'm moving quickly from intermediate to an advanced level. Point being, look around, there are incredible opportunities to learn new skills.
Subbed! Long time fan and loving the content. I'll definitely be joining Toastmasters in 2023 as public speaking is something I can definitely improve on.
47 years old and I started both BJJ and Spanish this year.
Oh, and became a dad for the first time.

Amazing. Accumulated injuries from other sports are making it tougher, but I enjoy it... takes the mind off many other things. Thanks Erik!
Congratulations 🙏

So much good stuff in here I will be re-reading a few times this weekend - fired up for new skill acquisition in 2023!
