99% of the notes people send are kind and supportive. I’m overwhelmed by the support. Thank you. This isn’t directed at you.
Occasionally I’ll get a nasty note from a paid subscriber who is upset that it’s been a couple of weeks since my last article. Here’s one:
Always a Cernovich fan but a big lack of content didn't justify me spending $5 a month for an article a month. I understand stuff happens, but no explanation is a slap in the face to those reading and responding to said content.
That person is on a power trip and is toxic. It has every red flag. For example he’s a “big fan,” but is somehow being “slapped in the face” by me. Over $5.
I’m glad he’s gone and I hope he doesn’t read me on X.
Please understand:
You’re not a charity. If you don’t want to subscribe, then that’s cool.
The monthly subscription fee is kept low to keep me from feeling the pressure to PRODUCE CONTENT like someone in the salt mines, and for you to not stress over the price.
This Substack is primarily for people who enjoy my other work, and want to support longer form, more focused writing.
It’s not a daily blog where I bang out hot takes.
If you go through and read the Archives, you’ll see a coherent worldview, and how this project is shaping.
There are three books emerging in real time:
Parenting.
The Good Life.
Social Turmoil and News.
If you need “content” churned out, then it’s better for you and me that you don’t subscribe. I don’t want you to become a paid subscriber and then think you can yell at me.
Such people are not the intended reader. I want thoughtful, respectful people who are looking for improved discourse.
Today is an attention economy where people will say or do anything to get readers and viewers. That’s not my vibe. I’ve manually blocked over 20,000 people on X for being rude to me or speaking in a tone that isn’t appropriate.
And I don’t want to get into a parasocial relationship where I end up apologizing and groveling for not writing something “often enough,” whatever that means.
If you’re going to be frustrated that I don’t keep a schedule suitable for you, then there are many other places for you to go.
If you like what you see, or want to support my writing, then I appreciate your subscriptions and messages.
Lol $5 is a starbucks coffee. Quality over quantity is exactly what this is for. Your X content is free. Keep doing you. Appreciate the parenting posts!
Your work is vital and I'd pay even if you posted just once every 3 months. Work life balance is how everybody wins.
